The Bronx Park woodshop is now up and running. After five years of hard work to get the dust collection and electrical systems installed we now have one of the finest woodshops in the city that is open to the public. We have a great team of Instructors and volunteers and we offer a variety of programs for every skill level.
We believe that every person with an interest in woodworking should have the opportunity to learn the basic skills. Our Introduction to Woodworking course was designed just for that purpose. We teach the safe and proper use of hand and power tools including larger woodworking machinery. Each participant gets hands-on experience by building two projects over the 8 weeks of the course.
Once an individual has the basics, the next step is the Woodworking II course. This course allows each person to select their own project and work at their own speed with the help of an Instructor each step of the way.
We also offer a variety of more specialized classes – recent courses included Router Essentials, and Baseboards & Casings, Woodturning, and Wood Inlay.
We have Drop-In use of times the woodshop for experienced woodworkers who want access to the woodshop. Currently the drop-ins time are twice three times a week (Wednesday and Saturday 12 – 4 pm and Fridays 10 am to 2 pm). You may bring your own material and supplies and use our tools and equipment to work on your projects. The drop-in fee is $8.00 per visit.
Drop-In times are supervised by a knowledgeable team of volunteers! Individuals with woodworking experience can volunteer to earn free drop-in passes for the woodshop. Please contact the facility manager at email@example.com if you are interested in learning more.
PLEASE NOTE: All individuals who wish to use the woodshop for Drop-In are required to have completed our SAFETY ORIENTATION class. The class is 2.5 hours and covers the safety information you need to know to use our facility. Upon completion of the Safety Orientation class you will receive a SAFETY CARD which is valid for 3 years. You must present this card when you attend the drop-in sessions. The cost of the Safety Orientation is $25.00.
